pdCensus2010 is a new comprehensive United States national database with more than 150 valuable demographic variables drawn from Census 2010 data along with latitude and longitude coordinates, all sorted at multiple geographic summary levels.

This product covers all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Built-in are the most useful counts and calculations from U.S. Census Bureau Summary File 1 (SF1) and succeeding updates, encompassing the areas of geography, population count, gender, race, age, households, families and housing units.

Census summary levels include: State, County, Census Tract, Census Block Group, Census Block, County Subdivision, Subminor Civil Division (Puerto Rico Subbarrio), Consolidated City, Place, Congressional District, Legislative District(s), School District(s) and Zip Code Tabulation Area.

Also included with this Census 2010 database package are formulas and instructions for distance and radius calculations based on latitude and longitude coordinates.

pdCensus2010 continues to be in development while the U.S. Census Bureau completes its current work on the Census data. Additionally, redistricting is not completed for all states, and there are many challenges in the courts to the current political district line designations. A finalized version of this product will be released in 2012Q4. However, even after finalization, updates will be made available on a regular basis.

Note that all purchasers of a pre-finalized version of pdCensus2010 will have an opportunity to download the finalized version free of charge once released.

Peacock Data, Inc. is pleased to announce the release dates of two long awaited database products, pdGeoTIGER 2 and pdCensus2010.

pdGeoTIGER 2 will be available for download October 3rd. This new product is a United States national database developed to allow precise assignment of geo location designations based on address ranges. The primary source for this information is the most recent U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line Shapefiles, however, this is supplemented with proprietary information and numerous corrections and additions.

Street addresses can be matched to pdGeoTIGER 2 to append latitude, longitude, state, county, Census Tract, Census Block, Zip Code Tabulation Area, FIPS codes and many other geographic locations. This information can be used to append census data (both 2010 and 2000), determine distances, and for a wide range of additional projects requiring accurate GeoCoding.

pdCensus2010 will be released the following month on November 7th and will also be downloadable. This new addition to our census demographics product line includes the just released data from the new 2010 national count.

The wide range of U.S. Census information included with pdCensus2010 can be matched at multiple levels of precision, including Census Tract and Zip Code Tabulation Area among many others.

Stay tuned to this site and the PeacockData2.COM website for further details, including pricing, table layouts and samples, as they becomes available.

This is where our new Latino Append service comes in.

This service rates each of your records as to how likely it is that the subject is Latino, Latina or Hispanic. Primary matching algorithms are based on the first and last name(s); secondary matching algorithms utilize the address and U.S. Census data.

Records are flagged with a multi-point scale providing the percentage chance of Latino or Hispanic origin.

pdLatino

For those waiting for the release of our pdLatino database product, which is utilized in our Latino Append service, development is in the final stages, and we are testing its precision and comprehensiveness. Expect release is in the first quarter of 2010.

pdLatino has taken longer to develop than expected. In fact the original schedule called for a release date of July 1, 2011. But we have really gone to school on the product, and we expect the results to be well worth the wait.

The Windows Clipboard in easily accessed in FoxPro and Visual FoxPro (VFP). There are currently two commands that directly relate to it. These are _CLIPTEXT to copy and paste text and DataToClip() to copy values from a table. These are not highly sophisticated commands, but they are quick and straightforward and are often the simplest way to transfer data between applications.

Let us explore these two VFP commands further and provide some examples:

_CLIPTEXT System Variable

The _CLIPTEXT System Variable contains the content of the Windows Clipboard and can be engaged to write text to and read text from the Clipboard. This feature has been available since the earliest versions of FoxPro for Windows. The syntax is very simple:

_CLIPTEXT = cExpression && writes cExpression to the Clipboard

cExpression = _CLIPTEXT && stores the Clipboard content to cExpression

One of the most common uses of _CLIPTEXT is during program development. Long SQL statements, commands and other strings generated by programs at runtime are often difficult to debug using VFP’s standard tools. In the following code sample an SQL statement is copied to the Windows Clipboard so the developer can paste it into a wordprocessor or other application for additional analysis:

cSQL = cFields + cSource +cFilter + cOrder + cOutput

_CLIPTEXT = cSQL

SET STEP ON && opens the Trace window and suspends the program

DataToClip Method

DataToClip() copies a set of records to the Windows Clipboard. It is a method of the Application Object or the _VFP System Variable. The field names appear as the first line of the text copied to the Clipboard followed by a separate line for each record. This method has been available since VFP 5 and is only slightly more complicated:

Syntax

ApplicationObject.DataToClip([nWorkArea | cTableAlias] [, nRecords] [, nClipFormat])

Arguments

nWorkArea

Specifies the work area number of the table for which records are copied to the Clipboard. If you omit cTableAlias and nWorkArea, records are copied to the Clipboard for the table open in the current work area.

cTableAlias

Specifies the alias of the table for which the records are copied to the Clipboard.

nRecords

Specifies the number of records copied to the Clipboard. If nRecords is greater than the number of remaining records in the table, all the remaining records are copied to the Clipboard. If nRecords and nClipFormat are omitted, the current record and all remaining records are copied to the Clipboard.

nClipFormat

Specifies how fields are delimited. The settings for nClipFormat are:

nClipFormat

Description

1

(Default) Fields delimited with spaces

3

Fields delimited with tabs

If nClipFormat is omitted, fields are delimited with spaces.

This following copies the current work area from the current record to the end in tab-delimited format:

_VFP.DataToClip(,,3)

This following copies the current work area from the current record to the end in space-delimited format:

_VFP.DataToClip()

There are some important limitations with the DataToClip Method. Memo field content and General fields are not copied, there is no way to apply a filter or select which fields will be copied, and bugs have been found in the method’s implementation in VFP 5 and VFP 6. Also note executing DataToClip() does not move the record pointer.
