Peacock Data, Inc. is pleased to announce the release dates of two long awaited database products, pdGeoTIGER 2 and pdCensus2010.

pdGeoTIGER 2 will be available for download October 3rd. This new product is a United States national database developed to allow precise assignment of geo location designations based on address ranges. The primary source for this information is the most recent U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line Shapefiles, however, this is supplemented with proprietary information and numerous corrections and additions.

Street addresses can be matched to pdGeoTIGER 2 to append latitude, longitude, state, county, Census Tract, Census Block, Zip Code Tabulation Area, FIPS codes and many other geographic locations. This information can be used to append census data (both 2010 and 2000), determine distances, and for a wide range of additional projects requiring accurate GeoCoding.

pdCensus2010 will be released the following month on November 7th and will also be downloadable. This new addition to our census demographics product line includes the just released data from the new 2010 national count.

The wide range of U.S. Census information included with pdCensus2010 can be matched at multiple levels of precision, including Census Tract and Zip Code Tabulation Area among many others.

Do you need to know who on your lists are of Latino or Hispanic origin? This is where our new Latino Append service comes in.

This service rates each of your records as to how likely it is that the subject is Latino, Latina or Hispanic. Primary matching algorithms are based on the first and last name(s); secondary matching algorithms utilize the address and U.S. Census data.

Records are flagged with a multi-point scale providing the percentage chance of Latino or Hispanic origin.

pdLatino

For those waiting for the release of our pdLatino database product, which is utilized in our Latino Append service, development is in the final stages, and we are testing its precision and comprehensiveness. Expect release is in the first quarter of 2010.

pdLatino has taken longer to develop than expected. In fact the original schedule called for a release date of July 1, 2011. But we have really gone to school on the product, and we expect the results to be well worth the wait.

U.S. Census Bureau Fact Sheet

What is the U.S. census?

Every 10 years, the government reports the number of people who live in the United States by conducting a count called the census. This count is required by the U.S. Constitution.

Why is the U.S. census count necessary?

Census data are used to determine the number of representatives your state receives in the U.S.
Congress, as well as your county’s representation in the state legislature. Government agencies
use the data to make funding decisions for more than $300 billion each year, including:

Title 1 allocations

College grant and loan programs

Public transportation

Road and community improvements

Public health services and hospitals

Neighborhood improvements

Senior services

How is the 2010 Census taken?

Census questionnaires are given to everyone living in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The information is collected in two ways: by a questionnaire that is sent to every home, and through confidentiality-bound census workers who travel door-to-door.

Who should be counted?

Everyone! All children, babies, and adults who live in a household should be counted, regardless of
nationality, citizenship status, race, age, or gender.

Why are some people reluctant to be counted?

The U.S. Census Bureau believes these are the most common deterrents to census participation:

Privacy: Some people are reluctant to give the government personal information.

Confidentiality: Some people worry that the information they provide could be used against them. However, census information is completely confidential. It is never shared with other government agencies, including the IRS, any office of immigration, or the FBI. Sharing census data is a federal offense.

Immigration and citizenship concerns: People may not want to draw attention to themselves. However, every person in every home should be counted as part of the census.
